Music
Music is not only an essential offering of our Fine Arts program, but is also woven into the daily life of Augustine School students. Our music program combines music history and appreciation with instruction in music theory and performance to enhance our students’ musical skills. Beyond music instruction, all students begin each school day by learning and singing a hymn of the quarter together at Opening Assembly. Students also learn a variety of songs for quarterly school-wide recitations. Music is a vital means of praising and worshipping God. It has the power to represent and evoke the full range of human emotion and allows for a deep expression of our faith. As such, it is truly inseparable from an Augustine education.
“Music is a more potent instrument than any other for education because rhythm and harmony find their way into the inward places of the soul.”
- Plato

During the Lower School years, students learn the foundations of music theory, practice vocal expression, discover new instruments, and learn to perform collaboratively through quarterly recitations.

Upper School students build upon this foundation by continuing their music education with advanced music theory, vocal development through complex vocal literature, master classes from professional musicians, and opportunities to perform in quarterly recitations, annual concerts, and as selected members of a regional honors choir.
