Curriculum

One of the most important elements of any school is its curriculum. "Curriculum" comes from the Latin word "cursus," which means "course" or "direction." Since a curriculum sets the "course" of our students during such significant years of their lives, we take curriculum choices very seriously.

At Augustine School we seek a curriculum which is true to our stated commitments--our Vision Statement and Confessional Guidelines. The principles outlined below reflect these foundational commitments.

At Augustine School the curriculum has been designed with a goal, or "telos," in mind--the 18 year old graduate of Augustine School. Our Vision Statement and Curriculum Principles state that goal clearly, and if you haven't already read our Vision and Mission Statements, you might want to read those. A truly classical and Christian education attempts to form a certain type of person. This formation will not happen in a vacuum. You, Mom and Dad, have been entrusted by God with your child, and Augustine School is an extension to your work. We do hope to serve you by offering the best education conceivable. But the efforts in the classroom will only succeed if your child is being raised and nurtured in a godly home. For the sake of your child, and for the glory of God, stay the course!

As mentioned above, for the immediate future all grades at Augustine School will be covering the same historical time-period as the backdrop to our curriculum. This year, Augustine School is on the second year of its history cycle, the birth of Christ to 1500, what we call the Middle Ages year. We believe that this has provided not only a coherent and integrated curriculum within each grade, but also a coherent and integrated ethos and curriculum across the entire school.
